March Music Writing Challenge Day 9: Aren't We Amphibians

One of the most popular names in the DIY scene is the ever-growing, Aren’t We Amphibians. Coming out of California, they’re making themselves known across the West Coast and are creeping throughout the US and into your town.

Released in October of 2023, “Emergency, Exit” is their second EP and contains some of my favorite instrumentation and guitar riffs I’ve ever heard.

Lazlo is my number one track on this EP, followed closely by Lobster, Party!, and Built For Bugs. The guitar licks and chaotic nature of this EP make it impossible to guess what you’re going to hear next –a true art form. They make such interesting music that it’s clear they have a true vision for their art, and they execute it perfectly.

Lobster, Party! has some super relatable lyrics, “welcome to your life / it's useless / but it's all you've ever known / live it out of spite / and maybe / your problems will be outgrown”.

Since this EP came out in 2023, they’ve released a couple of splits and a 2-track EP that I need to become more acquainted with very soon. I rep my AWA hoodie at least once a week or so, eagerly awaiting more merch to become available online since I haven’t had the opportunity to see them perform in person. Add that gripe to the list of “Why I hate being a Florida resident”.
