March Music Writing Challenge Day 7: FKA Twigs

I saw this album cover PLASTERED all over my social media timelines and figured I needed to give it at least a quick listen. I enjoy electronic music, but it’s never been something I regularly pay a ton of attention to. I’m BEYOND grateful for the flooded timeline because, “Eusexua” by FKA Twigs, is a total home run.

Some lyrics that stand out to me are in Perfect Stranger, “You’re a stranger, so you’re perfect / I love the danger / You’re the perfect stranger / I don’t know your friends or your ex’s name / Who left who or who took the blame / I don’t know and I don’t care / And that's okay with me / I don’t wanna have the anxiety”.

The baggage of someone’s dating history or past can be debilitating for some, and depending on the details, cause new relationships to suffer or even end in flames. It’s a hell of a lot easier to have fun in a fresh relationship without knowing these things or getting too close for comfort. When you put emotional distance between you and the other person, it’s more enjoyable in the PHYSICAL…well…for some people. It’s a lot less to think about at the very least, so you can focus on the present and avoid the never-ending “what-ifs”.

“EUSEXUA” was released on January 24th of this year, and it’s made me super excited to listen to other music in this genre, as well as follow FKA Twigs with a magnifying glass. I’m sure most people have already heard some of this album, but if you’re one of the only people on the planet that hasn’t…it’s time to get on the Twigs Train.
