March Music Writing Challenge Day 5: Movements

"Feel Something"

Movements is a band that has followed me for so long, and I never truly gave them my full, undivided attention long enough to listen to an album front to back…until now.

“Feel Something”, their 2017 release has been recommended to me by MANY of my friends, and after listening to it I can see exactly why. This is a gorgeous record, only 43 minutes long, and I want MORE!

The vocals, especially in the intro track near the end that are more spoken, remind me so much of Hotel Books and Being As An Ocean (two great artists). There are many different vocal tones that I enjoy, and it definitely depends on the genre if they mesh well. Movements has it down to a complete science.

Melodious guitars are throughout this entire album, pulling me deeper and deeper into the tracks beside his golden vocals. Daylily is sprinkled with so many lines that solidify it as a love song to me, like, “You are the rustling of leaves / And you are that honeysuckle breeze / You are the sunlight / Shine onto me.”

This song inspires me to write a love song of my own, but Movements has outmatched lyricism, and it would pale in comparison to this record. If you’ve heard of Movements, you know how important this album is, and if you’ve never listened, this is your sign to throw on a few tracks.

All of their music is streaming on Apple Music, Bandcamp, and Spotify, so check it out ASAP!
