March Music Writing Challenge Day 3: Waving

Penny, the guitarist of the band Equipment, has another project under the name Waving, and she absolutely KILLS it with this second EP. “If and When I Fall”, released in October of 2022, is a 4-track EP that is fun to listen to, relatable, and very well produced. It’s full of catchy lyrics, shredding guitar licks, and her vocals are exactly what I crave from this genre.

I can’t pick my favorite track, it’s gotta be a tie between the opening song Dancing To Dance Music, and the final song, Fairy Tales. They’re pretty different vibes in my opinion, but in both songs, we get a peek into Penny’s brain for a few short minutes.

Dancing To Dance Music has great lyrics like, “Everything ends cause it has to / There's no other reason why / No one cares and no one should wonder why / It’s harder to get high.” A super nihilistic way of thinking but EXTREMELY relatable, especially in these times. The song ends abruptly and with a scream, which may be how the world ends? Who knows…?

This is the most recent release from Waving, and with only a 10-minute runtime it's MORE than worth your time to throw on this gem of a record.
