March Music Writing Challenge Day 24: Wallows

Like many people in my age group, I came across Wallows when their single Are You Bored Yet? popped off on TikTok. I’m a loud and proud enjoyer of indie-pop music, so I vibed with their sound immediately. I did enjoy that album, but kind of lost touch with them after that. That was until “Model” came out in May of 2024.

“Model” has got to be their best and most cohesive piece of work. There are legitimately NO skips on this album. They got a bit more experimental with sound and song structure, making the tracks super interesting, yet catchy. Some of my favorites are: Your Apartment, Calling After Me, Bad Dream, You (Show Me Where My Days Went), Only Ecstasy, A Warning, and Canada. Out of those, my overall top track is You (Show Me Where My Days Went). 

They recently toured in Florida and I unfortunately missed them, but am eagerly awaiting their new release and eventual tour later on this year or next year. I enjoyed “Model” way more than I ever thought I would, it’s a damn near perfect album for me. If you like catchy guitar riffs, electronic bits, and lyrics that hit you in the chest, you’ll love it too.
