March Music Writing Challenge Day 2: Fleet Foxes

"Sun Giant"

Though this album was released in 2008, I was a bit late to the party, stumbling across it in high school around 2012, courtesy of the one friend I had with decent music taste. She shuffled among Pink Floyd and Zeppelin records but landed on Sun Giant from Fleet Foxes.

At the time, I was 15 or 16 years old, and the only music I was listening to was radio trash and classical (marching bands things, if you get it, you get it). When I heard GOOD folk/indie for the first time, it was this album, and I was blown away by how much I vibed with it. It felt like a part of my soul and personality was unlocked…like I had reached a destined checkpoint.

The song Mykonos is my personal favorite on this album, the vocals and acoustic guitar are so simple, yet they build up this palpable atmosphere. Walking through the woods alone and listening to this record makes me feel like I’m the only human left on planet Earth, and I never want to let that feeling go.

It’s time for you to answer the call. Listen to Fleet Foxes' album, “Sun Giant”, and take your own isolated walk through the forest. You can find them on Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp!
