March Music Writing Challenge Day 16: Finneas

"For Cryin' Out Loud"

An album made in a few weeks by one of the most talented producers and songwriters of our generation is here. “For Cryin’ Out Loud!”, released in October of 2024, is the second full-length album by Finneas, and it blew my socks off. His first album was great, but this felt like he took his talents to the next level. I cry, laugh, and feel so inspired every time I put this album on.

Some of my personal favorites are (the title track), For Cryin’ Out Loud!, Lotus Eater, Cleats, and Family Feud. Some of these songs even have a REALLY great music video, so definitely watch those if you can.

This album is full of interesting instrumentals, quippy lyrics, and chords that relentlessly pull on your heartstrings. You go through every emotion under the sun during this 10-track album, it’s hard to believe this was made in a few short weeks.

Cleats is a coming-of-age song with some genius lyrics, “She plays for a different team / scraping her knees / But it’s all the same to you / when she’s standing in your room / On an endless afternoon, and the summer’s over soon”, insinuating that this girl is probably not into men but that the protagonist is so in love that he doesn’t care and he can’t get her off his mind.

I haven’t snagged a vinyl or CD copy of this album yet, but it’s on my list of needs. You can stream “For Cryin’ Out Loud” on Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube!

P.S. Don’t forget to watch the music videos, they’re expertly done.
