March Music Writing Challenge Day 12: Pollyanna
"Slime"
Pollyanna was an opener for one of my favorite bands, Waterparks, when I last saw them live in Orlando at the House of Blues. There were a few things that drew me to this band: they’re queer-fronted, unapologetic, and have AMAZING stage presence.
They performed songs from their newer album, “Slime”, and the entire crowd was mesmerized by their energy. Some of my favorites from this 2022 release are, Slut, Smile, Relationship Anxiety, and Acid Song.
This entire album is layered with cathartic screams, catchy melodies, and ripping guitars that make you beg for more by the end of the last track. To me, this band is a great example of what “punk” should be. Expressive, honest, and always pushing the envelope.
Pollyanna tackles the woes of societal pressures and expectations, self-loathing, and a rebellion against conformity in a way that feels fresh and new in “Slime”. All of their music is streaming on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, and more!
Check out this album and experience one of the artists at the forefront of this ever-evolving genre.
